Ride 523 Sunday 2nd February 2025

LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 523 Sunday 2nd February 2025.

Before I get on to todays ride a few thank you’s to Steve for organising Friday evening, the Hub for hosting us and all of you who turned up it was a pleasant evening of chat and fish and chips it’s always good to catch up out of the saddle.

What a beautiful morning greeted us if a little chilly but after what we have had thrown at us recently I would take this, so it was last weeks cancelled rides heading south and hopefully pushed home.

By 10 quite a good group had gathered including Adrian Mitra making an appearance for the first time in a while, and it was really nice to welcome him back. 2 groups left the club an Advanced ride and Ken, David, Adrian joining me on an intermediate, we kept the Advanced in our sights down Blackwell’s end then Bob must have put the hammer down because we could see them no more, through Tibberton and in to Bully lane towards Northwood green.

The roads were remarkably dry as we dropped down towards Westbury but unlike the Advanced ride we didn’t cross the A48 we just looped back up to Northwood Green where Ken tried to have an energy bar well when I say try he managed to eat it but I think it took more energy to actually eat it than he benefited from it, it was stuck to his shirt then he dropped it twice complained how sticky it was the dropped the wrapper, so it was with a smile we pushed on, and when we joined the Blaisdon road the Advanced ride passed and Adrian couldn’t resist tagging on the back of them leaving just the 3 of us to climb out of Blaisdon on our way to Huntley and for the first time in a while we could stay on the Newent road past the Taynton turning on our way to Kent’s green, Hooks lane and home on our very well used Middleton lane Forge lane back to the club, it was noticed in several places how the roads have deteriorated or vanished completely in places which if you weren’t alert could cause a nasty incident, but luckily today it didn’t, but Friday evening we found out that there must have been a nasty pothole in the Bruce’s conservatory, Graham back in full training for a long overdue comeback, was pushing for a sprint finish on his turbo trainer when he fell off and out of the open doors onto the lawn. No damage done a sore shoulder and a body shape indentation in the lawn.

Di Aileen and Adrian were back and enjoying a tea with the rest when we arrived.

Thanks everyone this is a good club with great people.

Yellow leader.

He might have trouble with energy bars but polished off those fish and chips.
