LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 526 Sunday 16th February 2025.
That felt chilly when I rode to the club, 4 degrees feels like 1 degree, well now we know what that feels like. But a few of you weren’t sure so off we went Bob leading a sporty Advanced and the test with me on an intermediate. Christy turned up just before we left so waited in the club for Di to arrive.
We followed the sporty ride away from the club into a bracing Easterly wind through Tirley and Apperley ringing the bells outside pink cottage on our way through Deerhurst Steve setting a good pace as we tried to keep warm, along the A38 to the Odessa and along the Stoke Orchard road to the pamnington junction where it said road closed but it was just about passable with care Bozzerd lane over the railway crossing and just before the Evesham road there was the sound of skidding wheel and Gary’s bike had managed to completely wreck his rear derailleur, while we were wondering how to get Gary home Steve was delving into his rather well supplied saddle bag and said Don’t be hasty we can get him home, out come the chain splitter and he shortened his chain and turned it into a single speed, it reminded us of something Terry from Terry’s top tips would have done, but Steve had saved the day and then showed us how mud and a puddle gets oil off your hands. Now we could push on shortening the ride only for Gary’s chain to finally give up in Northway lane, so we left to get some transport to get him home but luckily for him his brother rescued him which was good as it would have been a long cold wait for us to get home. But we did up the pace on the way home to try and limit the time he had to wait.
Every one home safely if a little cold on what was a very eventful ride.
Good news is it’s getting warmer if a little wetter.
Thanks to everyone who rode today.
Yellow leader.
