LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 529 Sunday 16th March 2024.
Ice on the bird bath so back out with the leg warmers and warmer top, but it was dry and the sun was out and really quite pleasant as I rode to the club to put the urn on.
With Doc Mike out after a layoff it was decided we would join him and ride the intermediate ride so we followed the sporty group out of the club with Bob having ridden 100 miles yesterday saying he was having a gentle one today and in be known to us Julie, Chris and Richard were waiting for the Advanced group in Upleadon. We rode straight to Pendock and cooks lane into Albright lane and Bromsberrow. The wind was helping us and it felt a little spring like in the sun as we dropped down over Greenway cross and up to the windmill on the Much Marcle road on our quest for the Daffodils, as it was the start of the daffodil weekends held each year to celebrate the beautiful wild daffodils that grow around the Kempley area, and as we dropped down past st Mary’s church there were a lot of cars parked there the roads were busy and the shuttle bus was busily taking people to Kempley, we pushed on up the busy but normally quiet road to Kempley where there were a lot more people and cars around, and the village hall selling refreshments, but we managed to get Chris passed the smell of coffee and on to Queens wood the Daffodils were showy but not at their best yet but got better towards Qxenhall with Gwinn and Vera’s field looking splendid in the sun. Into Newent and this time we couldn’t keep Chris from the coffee shop and he led Doc astray taking him with him leaving the 4 of us to push for home alone, so up Culver street all the way to Tibberton and once again Brian showing great resolve not calling in at home as we passed but pushing on with us up the main rd to Highleadon and then the quieter roads along park road to Blackwell’s end and the final push for home.
We were the first back but we were soon followed in by the Scenic ride Di Gill and Aileen having been on a longer ride.
Then Bob and Chris ride in together informing us that Alan and Adrian had a fall on Linton Ridge Alan breaking his bike and Adrian over the handlebars and landing on his back. I have spoken with both of them and both are ok, Thanks to Richard for rescuing them both supplying tea and dropping them back at the club and Alan for escorting Adrian home.
So thankfully no one hurt to much, I think it’s a reminder what we do has its hazards but it’s great to see when things go wrong we are surrounded by kind helpful people.
Take care out there.
Yellow leader.
P. S Chris and Doc turned up after taking refreshments in Newent.
