A Northerly wind, wet roads and a wet forecast, it felt like the first ride of winter as I got to the club. With the urn full and warming up the car park was also getting full of riders, but the club captains spot was unused, with drizzle in the air as we left and a darkening sky it looked as though the weatherman was right. All rides headed out to Highleadon Tibberton and along Bully lane, over the A40 and headed to Northwood green where we took a left out to Westbury on Severn, then the loop around Rodley where the lanes were full of potholes and I remembered, that at least one person would be happy, Russell Lazenby, a man who said Quote, ” Hills, Lanes and potholes are our friends.” Well we had a lot of friends this morning I thought, as part of the road was missing outside one farm, only to round the next corner to see Russ covered in mud well I think it was mud, with the bike upside down and the wheel out, puncture, almost mended, so we stopped offered some moral support and were rewarded by his company home.
Crossing the A40 again and stopping for a minutes silence at 11, then back up to Northwood green, Blaisdon now with the sun shining and the weathermen looking a bit silly, but not as silly as me with my waterproof on and feeling like a boil in the bag ready meal, but the Northerly wind which we kept getting a faceful of just about kept me from overheating. Through to Huntley and saying goodbye to David at the Kents green junction we headed down hooks lane, Middleton lane and back to the club, where everyone was back safely if a little muddy.
A good cup of tea and a chat and the first ride of winter behind us, which wasn’t too bad as it turned out.
Thanks to everyone who rode and helped out today.
Yellow Leader.
