245th Ride – Sunday 19th November 2017

The morning after the day before, yesterday I was worried when it rained all day, but what a beautiful morning greeted us.

The urn was on and so many of you out, Martin Gregory back after missing a few weeks, Colin Westbury having a ride with us after spending all summer running. The WhatsApp group seems to be working with the scenic ride which was well supported this morning. The club Captains bike space was empty again, maybe the pressure is affecting his riding although a little mole tells me he was seen out with Matt Hill and Owen heading over Holybush earlier in the week.

All rides would leave the club and head towards Tewkesbury the Sporty and Terry leading an Advanced group doing the sporty route and Maggie leading an Advanced group and Sue leading the scenic ride.

Corse Lawn hill and on it was here that Colin Westbury realised that short fingered gloves and were not ideal in November and was going to have to turn back because of cold fingers, so all those cold mornings on the building sites had done nothing for his cold tolerance, so Maggie offered him her gloves, thinking she had a spare pair, I thought that was lucky, but no she just whipped hers off and gave them to Colin, leaving Maggie with just fingerless gloves which she rode with all the way round.

So to answer the much asked question, who’s toughest, a builder or a good northern lass?
Answers on a post card please.

With Colin warmed up Tewkesbury and Overbury behind us and crossing the mainroad at Beckford and onto Alderton , the sun was out visibility was brilliant and the conversation was amusing basically everyone giving Col a bit of a hard time as we turned and climbed up and over through Alstone and Gotherington. Now crossing the railway line again Pammington and Treddington and along the dual carriage way and down to Apperley where David dropped off to check on Ken who is feeling under the weather. Leaving David we pushed on through Tirley and home into what headwind there was just making the going a little harder.

But on arriving back at the club everyone was back and the tea made and the biscuit monitor has turned up Russell Lazenby looking after the biscuits for the Sporty boys. Maggie was glad to get her hands around a warm mug of tea, and an extra strong builders brew for Col.

Thanks to everyone who rode today and helped out it makes my job so much easier.
