LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 377 Sunday 4th July 2021. I’m going to start by reminding you about the tour to Exeter, we have all had the emails from Ken, rooms are being booked and there are good numbers on both rides the long and short rides will be taking place, rides will be available to view before we go, so let’s support the hard work that Frank and Ken have done so far by booking a room and joining us. Today’s rides, when I woke up with water overflowing out of the gutters it was very unlikely to take place but it’s amazing what a couple of hours does and as I rode to the club the sun was trying to push through, and I knew I got it right as Terry was there waiting. With the urn on ready for our return it was great to see Doctor Mike out for the first time in what seems a long time but out he was and was going to join us on the Intermediate ride and the rest would all join up together on the sporty ride. With the roads drying it was a little windy but we were off Orridge Street and Blackwells end behind us we were turning off the mainroad into Tibberton as we had a few spots of rain and thinking the worst, but nothing as we turned around the lanes of Bulley the sun was out and the roads seemed very quiet, that’s the first time I have ever rode down the mainroad from Highleadon without a car overtaking us. Over the A40 and around Church lane and the first thing I noticed was that gone are the pothole filled lanes I remember replaced by perfectly tar Mac’d roads through to Northwood green our progress only slowed by a puncture to Gill’s tyre which was swiftly repaired and we were off again dropping down past the Junction Inn and turning before we hit the A48 in a big loop back towards Northwood Green where the small lane made up for the lack of potholes around Church lane. The smell of the roast out side the White Hart pub in Blaisdon smelt good but we were making good progress through to Huntley and back around the lanes to Kents green. Hooks lane and we said goodbye to Gill as we turned down Middletown lane, with a storm along Corse hills we nwere wondering if our luck was about to fail us and we were going to get wet but like the rest of the ride it seemed to miss us and we got back to the club in the dry, Quickly followed by the Sporty group. A well earned brew and a chat was very welcome and there was a lot of chat about the tour as I mentioned above. Thanks to everybody who rode and enjoyed an unexpected ride. See you all next week. Yellow leader.
