Ride 395 Sunday 5th December 2021.This week was the first run out for the winter jacket on a cold windy morning with some overnight rain so the roads were going to be messy. With the urn on and the biscuits replenished, sorry to the Tuesday rides, we were ready for the off with David and Peter warming their fingers up on the side of the warming urn. 3 rides out today peter, David and his new Wahoo and Michael would do the Advanced with a stop at a coffee shop somewhere a strong Sporty ride and Maggie, Doc and myself would take on the intermediate. We were last to leave and last to feel that very strong Northerly wind making progress to the top of the Downhouse hill hard work but turning around the lane through Lowbands we had a brief respite before the climb up into Redmarley, with Maggie and Doc setting a lovely pace that drag was soon behind us and on now through Bromsberrow and the wet muddy roads passing the fields of pigs happily going about their business in the fields. On towards Leddington and once we were over the bridge with all the barriers on it the lanes of Leddington were hard going into the wind but we knew once on the main road for the first time the wind would be more favourable and sure enough passing Ledbury rugby club the going got a lot easier as we climbed to the lights in town which were green for a change and we flew straight over and on up taking the old road to cut throat lane then on up to the Eastnor turning and now with a proper tailwind the drop down to the castle was swift if a little lumpy and on to the climb up Holybush which was climbed with no dramas and halfway down we turned left along the side of the hill emerging on Castlemorton common and another nice downhill section. Castlemorton village hall and on through to Birtsmorton and it seemed to get a little chilly but as we worked our way to Pendock the wind now directly behind us and at times it seemed eerily silent pushing us along. Good time was made back to the club where we made a brew and waited for the others who weren’t far behind us. Plenty of biscuits and some of Mats Freddos went down well. Thanks to everyone who turned out today on a rather breezy day. Yellow Leader.
