LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 414 Sunday 5th June 2022
Jubilee weekend, and with so much going on and the weather taking a turn for the worse I think there were a lot of you waiting or wishing for a txt from me but it had stopped raining about 7.30 so no call from me but with all that said it was great to see the ones who turned up and with only 7 of us we decided to all ride the Advanced ride together, so me and Doc were in good company, Steve back from his Wales ride, Bob and Andrew from the sporty group and Ken and David fresh from the London ride 100.
Leaving the club and meeting Andrew down Orridge street we wound our way through Sladbrook, Mill lane and Dobbs hill to cooks lane into a stiff headwind but the pace was brisk but not too brisk to prevent some good chat and nice to ride with people we don’t normally ride with.
Rye Cross and the White city now I was nervous every of how far the tar spraying and stone Chipping’s had gone but it wasn’t until the Farmers arms that they began but unlike in the week when it felt like you were riding on a beach they had actually swept it so apart from it being hard work the surface was set. Castlemorton church and on around to Welland stone then a left out onto the Upton rd for a short while on to upper Hook rd then a small lane Brotheridge green lane which took us via mill lane to the centre of Upton which was very quiet until we got over the bridge and the meadows on the left were full of caravans campers and tents there must have been a festival, but the road was quite through to Rhyall and after a small loop we were heading through Ripple and Bow lane to Puckrup the pace was a good one David talking to Andrew and without realising raising the tempo through Church lane to The Mythe now the wind behind us and Bob leading us over the bridge and pulling us all along to Forthampton, sprinting up the hill from the main rd, maybe a Strava segment but he flew up there and took some catching on the nice downhill rd to Chaceley and alert from a bit of confusion with a horse box progress was swift that is until David punctured, but the delay wasn’t too long I think he got a bit of stage fright being watched by a load of experts, but between us the puncture was mended and we were on our way saying goodbye to Ken at the crossroads we pushed on to Ashleworth where Doc and Andrew left us for home leaving the rest of us to ride home. With only 4 of us left we had a good choice of biscuit with our tea..
Thanks to those who braved the rain and by the way we didn’t see a spot of rain all ride, it was a very enjoyable ride and a very good pace.
See you all next week or earlier if you ride Tuesday or Tuesday evening.
Yellow leader.
