Ride 420 Sunday 14th August 2022

LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 420 Sunday 14th August 2022.

That was a hot one, I think Steve going out early probably had got it right. But arriving at the club Terry was sat in the shade so when the urn was on I joined him and it wasn’t long before we were joined, it was good to see so many out, 2 groups a sporty and an Advanced with Maggie. Bob was going to join us in Tewkesbury and David like Steve had been out early and popped in on his way home. As we left towards Ashleworth it was very pleasant a gentle cooling breeze as we passed through the village on on to the Ham Terry setting a good pace for the conditions and we sat in behind chewing over the fat and listening to stories of the weeks adventures in the saddle, Chaceley and Forthampton behind us the push for Tewkesbury was on over the Mythe and climbed up the Mythe hill to Church lane and reversing this ride means you see things houses and views you don’t see normally and as we went through by the Church Adrian said if only it had a pub it would be perfect, so with the tonight of a cold pint in my mind we pushed on over the A38 past Puckrup and through the lanes through Uckington another beautiful village full of thatched cottages and some welcome shade for the first time the heat was rising, the little loop though Naunton bought us to Rhyall and on to the Upton where traffic lights at the roundabout held us up for a while but the view of the river and the bars along it once again reminded me how much a cold drink would go down a treat, but as we passed Clive’s fruit farm and the fields of plumbs people were picking, that thought passed and it was here the sporty boys caught and passed us along the upper hook rd to Welland, a bit of main rd now and the drag up to the turning onto the common and the drag half way up it until we turned and emerged by the Castlemorton village hall and now back on the lanes through to Birtsmorton passing the farmers arms a regular haunt of Adrian when out on his mid week jollies. Upper Pendock, Pendock and Derek setting a good pace with Terry and along the top rd they pulled away and made the break for home leaving the rest of us to ride back together. It was a lovely ride and a good pace in those conditions probably the hottest ride of the year so far.

Thanks to all who rode and helped out.

Yellow leader.
