LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 425 Sunday 18th September 2022.
Please next Sunday is Michaels Audax if you intend riding it he has extended the deadline for registration for online registrations until Tuesday.
This weeks group of rides was the Westbury loop and with a lot of things on this s weekend it was good to see so many out. Only 2 rides were used Alan, Alan, Owen and Bob set out on the sporty ride, the rest of us followed Terry on an advanced ride. With the threat of a load of road closures from the three shires car rally now not a problem the roads should all be clear. It was an Autumnal feel to the morning certainly a bit different from what we have become used to, but the sun was out so it was only a matter of time before it warmed up, and at least Ken had his long trousers on trying to bulk himself up for his turn on the front.
Orridge st and Blackwells End where Derek’s gear cabl broke so only allowing 2 gears to be had so he decided to take an early bath and return home the rest of us pushed on behind Terry who was setting a perfect pace through to Highleadon and Tibberton it was at the start of Bully lane where David took the lead and the pace rose Terry fighting to regain the lead the A40 was crossed and finally normal service resumed once again the pace was constant all the way to Northwood Green where we dropped down and began the climb up to Chaxhill, where a regrouping took place and a chance to grab a drink before crossing over to the lane which would take us through Rodley, Frank now taking the lead around the lanes the pace suddenly accelerated all in single file the miles soon passed and the sporty ride passed us before we reached the village hall.
Back over the A40 and along Church lane a really rough road full of potholes so expecting the worst the pace slowed but to everyone’s surprise it had been totally re covered providing a perfect surface over the railway line and now the perfect surface was covered in hedge cuttings so it was with great caution we climbed up to Northwood Green and on to Blaisdon, the temperature certainly had risen as we climbed out of the village to Huntley and back around the Newent rd to the Kents Green turning apart from a couple of huge tractors everything was good. Towards Kents Green a couple of Peacocks were on the side of the road a sight you don’t see every day but they seemed friendly and we passed with no issues and we returned to the club on a well trodden route through Hooks Lane, Middletown lane and back into Orridge street. With the Sporty boys back Alan was making the tea, and by the taste of it he has had a lot of practice. Everybody home safely and with the nights drawing in the mid week evening rides have finished, but thanks to everyone who has supported them they have been a huge opportunity to have a midweek ride.
Thanks to everyone who rode and helped out today don’t forget it’s the Audax next week.
Yellow leader.
