LEADIN VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 447 Sunday 16th April 2023.
Warmer they said, well I couldn’t tell but maybe I’m getting old, a few sick notes this week but really good to see the ones that did make it. With the urn on it was time to set off, Andy, Owen Bob and Wayne set off on the Sporty ride leaving Chris! Alan, Ken and Julie to join me on the Advanced ride, both rides set off up the 417 to Hawcross lane leading us up into Redmarley and Bromsberrow the roads through the village to Bromsgreen were wet with lots of water running down and across them unfortunately this disguised some of the pot holes so extra care was taken through to Greenway cross, Alan played green cross code man seeing us safely across a nasty junction. Leddington lane and the road surface hasn’t improved winter hasn’t been kind to some of our roads, and this one was no exception but soon we were at the junction by the new Ledbury cricket club where Chris was scoffing one of his many bananas, Ken was taking the eating seriously with a high carb bar looking like a bird seed block but he was chirpy after so it must have worked. The drag up through Ledbury was led by Chris and Alan they were making light work of the climb and waited at the top and Chris celebrating with some nuts, but now the good bit the reward for all that climbing is my favourite road along the back of the Malverns all the way to the Mathon turning now the roads narrowed a little but with light traffic good progress was made to Mathon, a beautiful little village on the side of the hills, a church, a stream and one of the best places to play cricket I know, but Chris and Alan full of nuts and bananas setting a good pace through to Colwall where we regrouped and pushed on through Colwall to the main rd where the sporty boys passed us out and down towards Ledbury a lovely decent to the Eastnor rd and one of the worst road surfaces around down to the castle, so with that behind us thoughts were now on to Holybush Chris and Alan sprinted up with me and Ken nice and steady probably a bit too steady as a man laden with panniers front and back with what looked like everything he would need for a camping tour passed me towards the top, but we were up and now the drop to Rye cross and now back on the main rd through Pendock as the rest of the ride Chris and Alan pulling us along at a good pace and soon the club was in sight and knowing the sporty boys would have made teapot of tea. The sun didn’t shine and I found it quite chilly on the ride but the brew warmed us up.
Thanks to everyone who rode and helped out today.
Yellow leader.
