LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 455 Sunday 18th June 2023.
The threat of thunderstorms later was the driving force on today’s rides, and with this in mind and it being Father’s Day there was a good turnout, Frank had turned up with an announcement that next Sunday the longest ride on the longest day more details to follow later but I will Putin intermediate and a scenic ride up for those wishing to stay local.
Franks was on good form telling a couple of jokes and then announcing that he wouldn’t mind a faster ride as it was quite flat, so with the Sporty boys leading us away we followed them and Frank true to word sat on their tail all the way to Tirley then as we started along the meadows towards Chaceley as if by magic they were gone leaving Frank to set the pace Forthampton and on to Tewkesbury the only thing in our way was a flock of sheep in the road being rounded up by a sheep dog. Over the Mythe and up the Bredon rd only when we turned towards Northway I realised Ken and Michael were missing so I waited for them they were not too far off the back so we pushed on, could we catch Frank who was on a mission this morning, but we would try pressing on to Kemerton and Beckford Michael now pushing the pace along we were no slower than the front group, Steve left us in Kemerton taking a detour home for lunch, Alderton now through the beautiful village and after a bit of main rd we turned towards Allstone and Dixton the drag up to the main climb of the day where we were passed by a chP on a racing bike making us look slow as we climbed I’m assuming a electric bike as he didn’t break sweat and was soon out of sight. As we created the front group were having a drink we rode through and dropped down to Gotherington, Frank once again got to the front with Stuart his able friend. Gotherington Acres a road which takes us through to Tredington lots of bikes out meaning at times going was tough getting through them. Along the A38 to Hatchets pitch there was a bit of a break appearing Frank,StuartChris and myself set off towards Apperley, Stuart now trying to break us and he nearly did at the top of Apperley village. We now had the slog back to the club up the Tirley pitch just about sticking with Frank and Stuart, Chris had faded after a week on holiday and soon we were flying down the barn lane back to the club.
Everyone got back safely and enjoyed a brew watching the u13 cricket
Di and Adrian joined us for a brew and it’s great to read Di’s write up about there enjoyable rides. Please as she said feel free to join them.
Thanks to everyone who rode and helped out today.
