LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 458 Sunday 9th July 2023.
Alan was out early on his own I believe and after the evening before’s thunder storm I was unsure what we would find out on the roads as the rain was monsoonal, but a good number turned up to give it a try.
Ken and David were riding the Sue Ryder cycle ride from Cheltenham so I hope all went well there, but with 3 out on the sporty Owen, Bob and a returning Richard led us away from the club leaving Maggie and the rest of us to chase after them through to Gadfield elm we rode over Dobbs hill and the normal roads through Albright lane to Bromsberrow , Micheal, Peter and Stuart all helping Maggie keep a strong pace leaving Gary Julie and myself chatting in their wake. Straight through Bromsberrow and over Greenway cross and up and over in to Much Marcle then turned back towards Kempley on a rather uneven and at times rough section of road, Kempley was soon upon us and the drag up to Queens wood was rewarded with the fast decent over the motorway on our way to Newent where the roads seemed rather busy as we had a job to cross over to climb up into town, we said goodbye to Peter here as his gear cable had broke or his battery was flat on his gear changing, now the long drag up watery lane past the school up to Clifford’s Meanse where we regrouped the a bit more climbing up through the woods ending at the Glasshouse inn. It was here that Stuart was stung by a wasp and had previously warned us that he was allergic and he carried an adrenaline pen injection which we may need to use, he was very calm and explained what was about to happen and we did need to use the pen and call a 999 Ambulance to attend to him. I want to report at this time I have heard from Stuart in hospital he had responded well to treatment and was hoping to be home this evening. Thanks to Maggie and Gary for helping and supporting Stuart at this time.
We decided after that as the rain started to head home by the shortest route, the rain continued nearly all the way home apart from the final half a mile where the sun came out as a reward.
An eventful ride.
Yellow leader.
