Ride 474 Sunday 19th November 2023

LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 474 Sunday 19th No ember 2023.

Not the best morning greeted us, a strong south westerly and the threat of rain but none yet so we were on, although I did wonder how many would turn up, but I need nit of worried, Andrew, Bob and Owen would do the Sporty leaving Maggie, Doc,David and myself on the intermediate and Di and Gill on the scenic at 10.30. As we left the club to the Barn lane it was like a little taster of what we would have to ride into on the way home but for now it was great being pushed along Corse Lawn with ease and soon we were over the Severn and on our way up into Bredon we kept a sensible pace knowing things would get tougher, turning towards Eckington still didn’t find the block headwind so progress through the roadworks was still relatively easy and with the road closed there was very little traffic. It was only when we turned onto the Pershore rd that we felt the full force of that wind through Defford and only when we turned to Earls Croome did we get a bit of rest bite but passing the Folly belonging to Croome court I believe it’s called Dunster castle but David and I couldn’t see Croome court I thought Brucie had said that it could be seen from the court but maybe tree growth over the years has blocked it.

Through Upton and up to Tunnel hill and then into the block headwind again to the Longdon Heath rd which led us to the Hill end rd and the beautiful views across Gloucestershire, but with storms moving along the Malverns being pushed along at great speed it was decided not to stop and push on right out to Castlemorton village hall and on to the Gloucester rd, Di and Gill were coming out of the Birtsmorton junction, Maggie setting a good pace through Pendock and the sporty boys overtaking us at the roundabout in Staunton which meant we all got back within a few minutes of each other.

This was a tough call this morning but it turned out to be a good day in the saddle and the wind didn’t cause to much hinderance as we zig zagged home and it was really mild I think a lot of us were over dressed and removed some clothing before we left. So to sum up no rain a bit windy good company a good day. Thanks.

Yellow leader.
