LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 486 Sunday 18th February 2024.
I woke to heavy rain and a quick look at the weather App and it said dry at 9 so we were on, but I think the weather put a few off but still good numbers and really good to have Andy back after taking a tumble so Bob and Alan would accompany him on the Sporty, Maggie, Peter and Gary would tackle the advanced leaving me to have the privilege to ride with Kennsnd David something I haven’t done for many a month while Ken’s leg has been healing. This was the flood avoidance ride so off we went the other rides headed up to the cross and we headed down Orridge street to Sladbrook lane where in the bottom the road was completely flooded and it was decided that we turn around and avoid it so back past the club and rejoined the route at Old Pike then Haw Cross lane up into Redmarley and on to Bromsberrow, the roads were wet and at times dirty, meaning a good bike wash was on the cards when we got home but the sun was out and it was warmer than it has been for the last few weeks. So with Ken’s leg standing up ok we pushed on over Greenway cross and turned on to Leddongton rd, I’m sure this was a little planning error but we rode on taking a lane I had never been down before and we dropped down water rushing down the side of the road eventually croosing a bridge over a stream gushing under the road and now we weren’t far from emerging on the main rd. we rode towards Preston’s Cross and over to little Marcle more wet roads but quiet roads and David led us through to the bottom of Ledbury where once again we took a new road by the recycling centre which meant we were on the road leading to the top cross and 4way traffic lights but we had a welcome chance to grab a drink before a bit of climbing up to the Eastnor junction and we dropped down to the castle on the most uneven bit of road we ride on almost felt like it was shaking everything off my bike but soon we were past that and on the climb of Holybush, I thought i was going well with David and Ken nowhere in sight but at the top Ken admitted he had dropped his bottle and every time he went to pick it up it rolled a bit further down the hill hence why the gap was so big. Rye cross and on to Berrow church and Pendock before David made the break for home pulling us down Gadfield Elm and on to the club.
With the teapot brewed the advanced group and the scenic group pulled in followed by Andy and Bob and Alan.
It was great to have Ken back fit and healthy and to ride with him again and David.
It’s not long till the Tour please check your diaries and see if you can join us, it would be good to get a few more.
Thanks if you rode today it was a good day.
Yellow leader.
