LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 489 Sunday 17th March 2024.
Well at 7am I was thinking about calling the club rides off but looking at the weather App, clearing up at 9.0 so have confidence and as the morning went on the lighter the rain got until the sun was popping out as I put the urn on.
The Majorca crew were out this morning getting that last ride in before they ride off in search of some sunshine and hills as I understand it.
But back to todays rides the Sporty and an advanced ride left the club as one along the 417 to the garage and on to Ashleworth only to meet Wayne coming in the opposite direction, telling us the white end lane is flooded so we took the Stonebow lane only to find that flooded so we retraced our route and took Wickerage Street, we pulled over to allow a car to pass, and an innocent looking puddle was in the gateway which Gary quite innocently went to steady himself on as we allowed the car to pass only for him to go about knee deep in it, so he was known as wet foot Fardon for the rest of the ride, but this road led is right back to the main rd, I could not believe how much water was standing on the roads as they were clear yesterday. But we pushed on now deciding to give the lower roads a miss and sit on the main rd through to Longreen. A short stop to remove some clothing and David calling it a day, his recovering knee not quite ready but it was good to have him out albeit for a short time. Tewkesbury and up the Mythe and into Church lane through to Twinning and another change deciding Uckington would be flooded so we joined the A38 for a short while to the Ripple turning and now we were back on route winding our way to Rhyall and Upton upon Severn, where we were surprised the road through by Clive’s Fruit farm wasn’t flooded so up the hill and along upper hook lane to Hook Bank and now through Welland into a strong headwind something we hadn’t noticed before but Brian and Chris led us across the common before we turned off to the gentle climb up Flap gate lane to new road taking us a k to Castlemorton village hall, and the church and it was here that as we dropped down to the farmers arms, 2 patches of floods hindered our progress but nothing like the flood towards Birtsmorton so once again we retraced our route and joined the main road which we stayed on all the way back to the club. Brian and Chris pushing on the rest of us stayed together helping each other out into that stiff headwind.
With the sporty ride back at the same time and the scenic also having to avoid the flooding and had a brew and left after Terry joined them for a tea.
Wet foot Fardon Squelched himself off home to avoid trench foot, and Ken was seen doing his warm down with Owen.
Thanks to e wry one who rode today it was a pleasant surprise to see so many put.
Summer must be on its way.
Just a call to anyone who is looking to get back on their bike the Tuesday evening rides start early April so please consider these the perfect rides to make this happen.
Yellow leader.
