LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB TIDE 492 Sunday 14th April 2024.
Before I recap this week a bit about next week. Much has been said about away rides so this is our first, the Blossom trail around Pershore and Evesham I have done a route based on the official Blossom trail but less main roads. We will start from the small car park by the river in Pershore at 9.30 and have a club ride around the local area hopefully coffee in Evesham if you have any recommendations, further details will follow. There will be 3 rides from the club as well so plenty of choice.
Back to this week and the shorts were on but feeling on the minority on arrival at the club. It was easy this week 2 rides Sporty and intermediate, and for the third day on the trot it’s dry so we were off. Orridge St and Blackwell’s end our usual route out of town through to Tibberton, Brian setting a good pace into a headwind which we were happy to sit in as we rode through to Huntley and how the houses have shot up by the old golf course since we last rode. Grange court lane and some spectacular views of the Cotswolds on the distance you can see the entire range, we pushed on through to Blaisdon, where half way up the hill we turned into Velthouse lane, Doc (Mike) was telling a tale about bees in his loft and the people who tried to capture the swarm, just like Alan Aplin I said starting a conversation as we climbed, I said I can’t talk and climb but I can listen, he said just listen then it takes my mind off the hill, so listen I did to a very entertaining tail. By which time the lovely if a little rough Velthouse lane was behind us and we were cycling through Longhope to Barrell lane or busy lane as it was this morning but another lovely lane through to Aston Ingham and no sign of the massive lorry which was blocking the lane on Thursday.
Ken wanting to go up Oak lane again as we did on Thursday but I made him tow the line and pass the turning but we made up for it on the climb up to the Connigree before decending down Watery lane into Newent. Now the well yroddenroute home via Hooks lane where the Scenic ride were just infront of us Di, Gill and Chris who started with us decided his legs were not feeling the love so left us and picked up the scenic and now we were all together for the ride home. We separated again at Sladbrook lane we added a little on tbough to old Pike and then the push for home down the 417, Brian setting the pace back to the club and fair play he can shift. As we arrived bsck the sporty group got home so everyone home together for an outside brew.
Lovely ride great company with the tour not far away, places still available, the training is picking up.
Thanks to all who rode or helped out.
Yellow leader.
