Leadon vale cycle club Dorchester tour day 1.
The day started with a lovely drive down no hold ups and Ken keeping me company on the journey down, and I learnt that Ken was actually born in Dorchester but not many people know that but arrival was good Ken Settled in and the Junction was very accommodating which meant we could make the 1.30 ride to Weymouth so having gathered Gary who was at the Junction as well we rode to the premier inn where the ride start was 7 of us lined up Ken was fussing about tyre pressures so the track pump was needed meaning we left on time. Doc had managed to get lost on the way to the prem inn but was there now so we were off the 2024 tour had begun. David and Peter had left Taunton and we’re on route and we were climbing up past Dorchester golf club a long pull but the views towards Our destination were stunning with Portland Bill in the diastance. The cycle paths we followed along the busy road into the Weymouth, and staying on the paths we rode along into the harbour which meant a climb up the steps to cross the old bridge and as we were off course we struggled to find the cycle path but when we did it was worth the struggle an old railway line leading us through great views of the harbour and Chisel beach in the distance where we finally ended at a little beach cafe for refreshments. Dorset cake and coffees and we were set for the ride back via Weymouth sea front looking splendid in the sunshine. Ken went looking for a crab T Shirt without success and after a busy stretch of road we back in the sanctuary of the amazing cycle routes home only all those nice down hills were now up hills and a taste of things to come for the rest of the weekend. But Dorchester seems to be a nice place to stay and we are about to meet up for an evening meal.
More to follow on the weekend but we’re here and all is good.
