LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 507 Sunday 4th August 2024.
Thanks Maggie I stole this ride off the Wednesday group it was a trip to the Hole in the Wall on the river Wye, not a day for racing just a day to enjoy the ride. The sporty group left and we soon followed out on a well used route through Middletown lane, Hooks lane and in to Newent, it was a perfect morning not too warm just right which was handy as we climbed over the Connigree down to the Gorsley rd which we followed to the Aston Ingham turning where Stewart was waiting for us, from here we took a right and wound ourselves around some narrow lanes not really knowing where we were but after a stiff climb up Bravans Hill we ended on the Linton Ridge where we regrouped and then finding Cut Throat Lane which wound its way through to Bromash and turning right by Richard Hammonds house we climbed up over the M50 and on towards Ross only turning at the Hole in the wall sign post. Now we weren’t far away dropping down to the river,it was very quiet and we stopped at the same spot we always stop for a photo, and Ken doing his best to miss it as usual he was free styling his way down the river bank, shouts of concern mixed with laughter as he emerged back on the road. Photo done we were back on our way on along the river the climbing past Howe Capel Court crossing the main road at Crossway then climbed up and over Barrelhill green then a couple of stiff climbs took us to Gwynns hill lane which we followed all the way to Kempley and the Kempley road to Dymock. Crowfield rd and the dreaded resurfacing so loads of gravel which was an experience all the way through to the Ryton Junction and now the 3 climbs up in to Redmarley which were as tough as normal the we descended down the Playley road Into the pendock rd through Lowbands and Dobbs hill back to the club where Alan and Richard were coming back from the opposite direction because Alan’s chain had broken and they made there way back to the Clifford’s Meanze repair shop at Richards. The rest of the sporty ride with Andy cutting it short were Garmin Free I’m not sure any of them had the route but a call from Wayne in Redmarley meant they had made it to there and were soon all back.
Good ride should be called the Hole in the Road ride with the amount of potholes we saw today.
Thanks to everyone who rode and helped out.
Yellow leader.
