LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 515 Sunday 6th October 2924.
October where has that year gone, another AGM and another reminder subs are due we have managed to keep them at £15 but we are just at break even so please join again this year.
Today’s rides were forecast wet but nothing at 9.0 so with the urn on a good group gathered ready for the off and before we left a warning about mud on the road, farmers struggling to get the maize harvest gathered are unfortunately depositing large amounts of mud on the roads and with rain forecast we must be careful,
Bob and Andy left on a sporty ride deciding to stick to the main roads, Wayne joined David Frank and Andy on the Advanced ride and Chris, Doc, Ken and Gary joined me on the Intermediate. Out on the 517 to Sladbrook then through to Middletown lane and on to Newent, all going well as we went up
Watery lane to the Connigree lane and as we carefully dropped down through the cutting to the Gorsley road and a spell of main rd past the Kilcot Inn and on to the Aston Ingham rd quiet as we made progress but with increasing amounts of mud right across the road as we cautiously approached the Barrell lane turning which is where I thought we would be hit with really dangerous roads but it was as normal a bit wet and a few potholes but we were soon crossing the A40 into Church lane all together as we dropped down through the village to the A48 which we crossed in to Velthouse lane once again the roads were wet and more pot holes but going through the woods below May hill was a good feeling and soon we were back in the open and Blaisdon. Down through the village and wound our way to Northwood Green and the start of some rather muddy roads so with great caution we pushed on to Huntley Solomon’s tump and Tibberton. Still dry as we rode up the main rd to Highleadon park rd and into Blackwell’s end and more mud before having cleared the mud Ken suddenly took off for home taking Gary with him. So back having a tea wondering where everyone was and it wasn’t long before the Afvaced ride were back without David and Frank covered in mud it happens they both had a fall just before Kempley both falling off and Favid headed home with a sore leg and shoulder, so hoping it’s just bruised, Frank carrying on with the ride and as the mud continued all the way to Gorsley a group decision to change the ride home to avoid more mud was made and Bob rode home alone after a ride out towards Worcester and Pershore but even they could not avoid some muddy roads.
Do a challenging day on the saddle I will update you on Frank and David when they have showered and assessed their injuries.
Yellow Leader.
