Ride 517 Sunday 27th October 2024

LEADON VALE CYCLE CLUB RIDE 517 Sunday 27th October 2024.

These rides were the ones cancelled from last week as the storm passed through, and this week could not have been different the clocks had changed the sun was out and no wind what a contrast. Shorts were the order of the day although borderline I went for it and so did a number of others as they gathered at the club. The sporty boys led us away from the club and we followed Barn lane and along to Moorend rd through Bridgend over Hoggs pitch and on to Pendock, Phelper gave us a wave as we passed still in his pyjamas making the most of that lie in, but we pushed on to Whitings pitch passed Berrow church and out on to the Tewkesbury rd but not for long, we turned through the White City and on to Castlemorton church where we took a left and zig zagged up on to the common, the Malvern’s looking splendid in the sun and you could see the people walking on the top of the hills, absolutely perfect views. We dropped down to the walk and rd and took the quiet little gated lane where even a nice man opened the gate for us. Now the drop into Welkand and the signs of muddy roads but all clean now from the Maize harvest , we crossed onto the Upton rd and left it at the Inn up on to upper hook lane quieter than the main rd and taking us through to Tunnel Hill. Now the drag up to Hill End and the views were really good but no stopping today to enjoy them David leading us on had he started the push for home surely not this early, Ken and myself catching up past the council farms. Now left at the church being very aware of the large tractors and trailers travelling these roads and it was a good job we were at the bottom of the hill on a blind bend one came round Doc said he could smell the fear as he passed with inches to spare, with no more excitement Birtsmorton and upper pendock were behind us and we were back on the road back to the club David once again taking a strong lead and Doc chasing him down with us all on tow, what had he got left so we sat behind him over the cross his lead only hindered by the new traffic lights I could sense he was about to be jumped, and so he was Maggie shot passed Ken and I were hindered by a car or we would have put in a show but It was good clean fun.

Di, Christy and Adrian had just arrived on the scenic ride and soon all the sporty boys returned in dribs and drabs they suffered punctures and accusations of taking the wrong routes, something for our club captain to sort.

A great day in the saddle and I’m sure with November around the corner I think today spoiled us.

The pie ride Tuesday from Croome Park if you want to join us.

Thanks to all who rode and helped out today.

Yellow Leader.
